Growing up in extreme poverty, Hilda felt like her life didn’t matter. When she became a Compassion sponsored child, she had everything she needed to grow healthy and learn well. As a respected teacher in her community, Hilda now knows that she has a valuable future.
Heunice lives in a polluted, dangerous community in the Philippines. Though she has little, Heunice believes God has blessed her with big things—a sponsor who loves her, a church family to encourage her, and a hope that will never fade through Jesus Christ.
When they arrived at the hospital, Joy was diagnosed with severe dengue fever, a life-threatening condition, and was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit. Her mother and father were told that Joy only had a 50 per cent chance of survival. If she did make it, she could still have permanent brain damage.
As a child, Francisco was abandoned by his mother, and his father was jailed on drug charges. He was raised by his great-grandfather and had little hope for his future until he was introduced to God through Compassion’s church partner. Today, he is soon to graduate university and will be the first member of his family to have a white-collar job.
Richmond Wandera tells the story of his journey from living in the slums of Uganda, to being released from poverty through Compassion’s programs. Richmond is now a pastor equipping other Ugandan pastors through his own pastor’s training college.
